Beltane
By Robyn Roth
Digital drawing made on a iPad with an ipencil. Beltane- Beltane is a pagan holiday celebrated between the spring equinox and the coming of the summer solstice. It honors fertility and the return of warmth and light from the sun. Commonly marked by decorations made of flowers and dancing around bonfires, this piece features a wolf skull “ghoulish cherub” adorned in a dress blooming with flowers, holding a burning crown of thorns to symbolically represent the burning away of pain and sorrow in life. Why the eye? Eyes express the innermost feelings and desires of the heart. They are symbolically associated with intelligence, light, vigilance, moral conscience, and truth.
